US President Donald Trump emphasized that dealing with Ukraine is becoming increasingly difficult. On March 7, he expressed his position on this issue at a meeting with journalists.
"Ukraine is more difficult to deal with than Russia"
During Trump's report on the US economy, reporters asked him whether he believed Russian President Vladimir Putin was committed to peace. In response, he:
"I believe in Putin's intention to achieve peace. Everything is good between us and Russia. Dealing with Ukraine is more difficult than dealing with Russia," said Trump.
According to him, both Moscow and Kyiv are interested in ending the war, but the main problem in this process is whether the Ukrainian government wants to reach an agreement.
US aid depends on negotiations
Trump said that if Kyiv is not ready for peace talks, the US may stop all aid to Ukraine:
"I don't see a desire on the part of Ukraine to end the conflict. If they don't want an agreement, we will leave there. Further US support to Ukraine will depend on its readiness for peace talks," said Trump.
Zelensky is ready to sit down at the negotiating table
Trump suspended military aid to Ukraine on March 3. After this decision, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced his readiness for negotiations.
On March 4, Trump told Congress that he had received an "important letter" from Zelensky, in which he wrote that Ukraine is "ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to ensure lasting peace."
Trump also noted that he received "strong signals" from Russia regarding peace talks.
According to Donald Trump's position, if Ukraine does not enter into serious negotiations to resolve the conflict, the United States may completely stop military aid to Kyiv. In addition, he said that there is a real possibility of ending the war between Russia and Ukraine. Now all attention is focused on the official position expressed by Kyiv and Moscow.
