Volodymyr Zelensky has appointed a new chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Major General Andriy Gnatov has taken up this position.
Gnatov was appointed Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in late February, having previously served as Commander of the Combined Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for eight months.
“In his new position, Gnatov is tasked with improving the efficiency of the management system of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in particular, improving the processes of reorganization and introduction of the corps structure, promptly adopting and implementing the decisions of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, as well as applying combat experience in planning and commanding troops,” the report says.
Lieutenant General Anatoly Bargilevich, who served as Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, has been appointed Inspector General of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. “He will be responsible for monitoring the reform processes being implemented in the army, and for verifying the implementation of legislation and adopted decisions in the system of the Ministry of Defense,” the report says.
Recall that in February 2024, Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valery Zaluzhny, and replaced him with Colonel General Oleksandr Sirsky, commander of the Ukrainian group on the Eastern Front.
