US President Donald Trump has been furious with Russian President Vladimir Putin's recent statements on Ukraine.
Putin last week questioned the legitimacy of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and proposed the establishment of an interim government in Ukraine under the auspices of the UN, the US and the European Union.
This move did not please Trump, especially considering that during his election campaign he promised to end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours, and the Kremlin's attempts to drag out peace talks are wearing thin on his patience.
Trump threatens Russia
The US President has announced that he will impose secondary tariffs on oil from Moscow if Russia does not recognize the territorial integrity of Ukraine and the terms of peace:
"If we cannot come to an agreement with Russia to stop the bloodshed in Ukraine, and if it is Russia's fault, I will impose secondary tariffs on oil from Russia," Trump said.
Moscow is stalling the ceasefire proposal
According to analysts, the Kremlin is not rejecting Washington's offer to negotiate a temporary ceasefire and a permanent ceasefire, but is dragging it out. This shows that Trump's attitude towards Putin is changing in a negative direction.
At the same time, Trump has also criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, accusing him of destroying the agreement on mineral resources.
Trump-Putin meeting scheduled for late February
After taking office, Trump spoke with Putin by phone and signaled that peace in Ukraine would soon be established.
According to recent reports, the meeting between the two leaders is scheduled for late February, but the effectiveness of the talks will depend on the Kremlin's willingness to cooperate. Follow “Zamin” news on “Telegram”
