Trump keeps setting new deadlines: will this ever end?
Donald Trump is the reason we've started frequently using the word "deadline." Previously, we used this word only before updating lineups in Football Manager. "Deadline" is an English word meaning the final moment by which something must be completed. For example, if you don't update your squad by the set deadline in Football Manager, you lose your chance, and even your uncle in the government can't help you. However, Trump's deadlines haven't turned out to be that serious. The timelines set by an entire U.S. president don't even match the deadlines of a virtual game.

One day, three days, a hundred days…

During his election campaign, Trump said he would end the war in Ukraine the day after his inauguration, even delaying returning his beloved sugar-free cola button to the Oval Office. However, Trump returned to the presidency four months ago. The cola button returned to the Oval Office, but the war has yet to end. Donald John Trump, calling himself a great strategist, is now suggesting the war can only end by recognizing Crimea as Russian.

When the Trump administration couldn't end the war in a single day, they chose the easiest excuse—blaming Joe Biden, claiming you can't end a war started by Biden in a day. Although everyone except Trump already knew wars can't be ended in a day.

Then new deadlines appeared. It was said Trump would end the war within his first 100 days in office. But even this 100-day mark passed, and the war continues. Last week, Mr. Trump, frustrated, gave Putin three days, stating: "If Russia doesn't give a clear answer about stopping hostilities by the weekend, we're out." This deadline also passed without an end to the war. Russians and Ukrainians continue to senselessly die in trenches.

"We've reached an agreement with Russia"

Recently, Trump stated the U.S. reached an agreement with Russia to end the war. "I think we've agreed with Russia. Now we must agree with Zelensky. I thought it would be easier to reach agreement with him, but it’s proving difficult, which is natural. I think we're close to a deal with both sides," Trump told reporters.

Trump called Putin and Zelensky strong men. "The meetings in London went well, I think. Now two people, two strong people must agree. Then the killing will stop," he added.

The U.S. president noted he might meet Putin after his official visit to Saudi Arabia in May.

Crimea is back on the agenda

Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine during the 2014 crisis. Recently, this issue resurfaced. Trump's special envoy, Steven Witkoff, after meeting Putin, mentioned conditions for ending the war include Ukraine handing over four territories to Russia and recognizing Crimea as Russian.

In recent London negotiations, the U.S. again stated that Ukraine must recognize Crimea as Russian to end the war. However, Zelensky declared before the meeting that Ukraine would never recognize Crimea as Russian. After his statement, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and foreign ministers of Germany and France decided not to go to London.

Trump criticized Zelensky's position: "We're close to an agreement. A man holding no cards must decide. He will either have peace or keep fighting for three years until losing his country," Trump wrote. Essentially, the U.S. president demanded Zelensky recognize Crimea as Russian.

That's the situation. When the great strategist claimed he'd end the war in a day, nobody imagined he meant forcibly handing one country's land to another. And that never ends well. Remember, World War II began exactly after such an agreement.
