Erdoğan: The "historic turning point" leading to peace in Ukraine is near

On Sunday, May 11, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan described the ongoing negotiation process regarding the military conflict in Ukraine as a "historic turning point." He made these remarks during a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron.

Turkey as a mediator for peace

The official statement from the Turkish leader highlighted the following:

"President Erdoğan emphasized that a significant turning point has been reached on the path towards ending the war between Ukraine and Russia. He stressed the necessity of seizing this opportunity and expressed Turkey's readiness to actively participate in organizing negotiations and establishing lasting peace."

The Russian side also provided an official statement regarding the dialogue between Putin and Erdoğan:

"The Turkish side has expressed its readiness to provide comprehensive assistance in organizing and conducting negotiations aimed at achieving sustainable peace," the Kremlin’s statement read.
