Imam Khomeini Hospital in the Iranian capital Tehran has turned into a real front-line point in recent days. Since June 15, case after case has been recorded in emergency departments — the military clashes between Iran and Israel have shattered the peace in the hospitals.
Medical workers are calling this a “bloody massacre.” The flow of wounded does not stop, there are not enough places in the departments, and the staff is working non-stop. One emergency doctor described the situation as follows:
“Inside the building there are screams, loud noise, and a bloody scene. Those fighting for their lives and the bodies are brought in at the same time.”
The worst part is that among the wounded are children, teenagers, and the elderly. In some cases, mothers come to save their child and only later realize that they themselves are wounded. Some patients have metal fragments embedded in their bones and soft tissues, others arrive with internal bleeding or severe burns.
According to Iran’s Ministry of Health, on June 16, 1277 people were hospitalized across the country, and 224 of them have died. Another terrible statistic — more than 90 percent of the victims are civilians.
As one doctor notes, the official figures do not fully reflect the reality. While lightly injured patients from Khomeini Hospital in Tehran are being transferred to other clinics, the situation in the intensive care unit is even more severe. There is an order not to disclose exact numbers of patients and casualties to the public.
Government officials also refuse to answer journalists’ inquiries. However, analysis shows that new wounded are brought in every hour and the situation in the hospitals is becoming more and more critical every day.
The Iran–Israel conflict is leaving traces of casualties not only on the military front, but also in hospitals. The tragedy in Tehran’s hospitals remains a living witness to a human catastrophe. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
