Historic Anti-Corruption Verdict in Russia: Timur Ivanov Sentenced to 13 Years in Prison
One of the largest court proceedings in Moscow has concluded, reports rbc.ru. The former Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, General Timur Ivanov, was sentenced to 13 years in prison in a trial held under the scrutiny of the public. This case is seen as another important milestone in the country’s fight against corruption.

According to the court’s verdict, several serious charges against Timur Ivanov were confirmed. The general was found guilty of embezzling 216.6 million rubles during the purchase of a ferry for the Kerch Strait, as well as stealing and laundering 3.9 billion rubles belonging to the previously bankrupt Interkommerts Bank. Additionally, the court decided to confiscate Ivanov’s large assets — worth over 2.5 billion rubles (land plots on Rublevskoye Highway, vehicles, cash in bank accounts, and other assets) — in favor of the state.

It is worth noting that the prosecutor requested a 14.5-year prison sentence, but the court imposed a slightly lighter punishment. Ivanov was arrested in 2024, and in recent years, this case has become one of the largest corruption cases among Russian officials.

Analysts note that this case is regarded as a serious step towards increasing transparency and accountability in Russian state institutions. Law enforcement agencies are demonstrating an even stricter stance in the fight against corruption.

At the same time, this verdict remains in the focus of public and international observers. Russian authorities declare that the fight against corruption and financial crimes will continue without pause.

Such strict measures against large-scale financial theft and abuse of office are expected to strengthen the rule of law in the country and increase trust in government institutions.
