On the night of July 4, Friday, Russia launched another large-scale air attack targeting strategic sites in Ukraine. The Ukrainian Air Force Command reported that Russia used 539 drones and 11 missiles. This includes over 330 Shahed drones, a Kh-47M2 “Kinzhal” aeroballistic missile, six “Iskander-M/KN-23” ballistic missiles, and four “Iskander-K” cruise missiles. 478 targets were destroyed by electronic warfare or air defense systems.
Ukraine’s Interior Minister Igor Klimenko stated that more than 20 people, including a 10-year-old girl, were injured in Kyiv. Residential buildings, schools, healthcare facilities, and transport infrastructure were damaged. Fragments of downed drones landed in the Darnytskyi and Holosiivskyi districts, damaging residential properties. In total, damage occurred in 13 locations.
Rail infrastructure in Kyiv was also affected: passenger train services were partially disrupted, with some trains delayed by up to two hours.
Additionally, Russia targeted areas near Zhuliany Airport, where Patriot air defense systems are deployed, using incendiary missiles. Footage shows fires in that area, but it remains unclear what specifically is burning.
According to Politico on July 1, the Pentagon froze deliveries to Ukraine of Patriot system munitions, Hellfire missiles, and other precision artillery rounds due to shortages in U.S. stockpiles. These aid packages had been approved under the Biden administration. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
