According to the health ministry in Gaza, governed by Hamas, more than 60,000 people have died since Israeli genocide began on October 7, 2023.
The ministry’s latest statement reports a death toll of at least 60,034, including 18,592 children and 9,782 women. In the past 24 hours alone, at least 112 people have been killed, including 22 who were trying to receive humanitarian aid.
Airstrikes have killed numerous civilians in Gaza City, Khan Younis, Nuseirat, and Al-Mawasi. Some families have been nearly wiped out. Attacks have also occurred near humanitarian aid distribution points.
According to the UN, over 1,000 Palestinians have been killed while trying to receive aid since May 27. Israel denies these claims, stating that only warning shots were fired.
Meanwhile, hunger is worsening in Gaza. Experts on global food security under UN sponsorship warn that the worst-case scenario — famine — is now "effectively occurring."
Israel questions the official death figures, stating it's difficult to determine how many of the dead were militants. At the beginning of the year, the Israeli army claimed to have killed over 20,000 Hamas and Islamic Jihad fighters.
