Horrific news has once again come from Ukraine’s central city — the number of dead and wounded continues to grow following the latest Russian attack on Kyiv last night. According to officials, several districts of the city were subjected to heavy strikes during this dreadful night.
The sound of rocket and drone explosions in the Kyiv sky woke the city’s residents at night. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that 48 people were injured as a result of the attack. In the Sviatoshynskyi district, part of a nine-story building collapsed due to a direct strike, and the tragedy escalated there. Four people died in that district, and two more in the Solomianskyi district. Among the dead is a six-year-old child.
According to the city administration, several residential buildings, a school, and a kindergarten in the capital were destroyed by the strike. Serious damage was also reported in the Holosiivskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts. Rescuers warn that people may be trapped under the rubble. They are currently continuing search and rescue operations at the scene.
According to the head of the military administration, Tymur Tkachenko, the total number of victims has reached 52, including nine children. About 30 victims have been hospitalized. According to Kyiv police, three of the wounded are police officers. Currently, the number of fatalities stands at six, but how many people remain under the debris is unknown.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky published a video showing the consequences of the attack and accused Russian forces of “terrorism,” emphasizing that all services are currently working at the scene.
The Russian Ministry of Defense has not yet commented on this attack. In Kyiv, the public and the entire country hope that the number of victims and destructions will not rise any further.
