Another tragic attack in Kyiv: Russian missiles bring new casualties

On July 31, 2025, the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv, once again experienced one of the largest attacks. The Russian army carried out massive missile and drone strikes at night, once again putting the lives of city residents at risk. According to the latest data, 13 people died, including a six-year-old child. City mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that 30 people were hospitalized and another 97 received outpatient assistance. Initial reports mentioned six deaths and more than 50 wounded.

According to the head of the capital's military administration, Timur Tkachenko, about 100 buildings — residential houses, schools, kindergartens, and higher education institutions — were damaged as a result of the strike. In the Sviatoshyn district, an entire entrance of a nine-story apartment building was completely destroyed.

According to the Ukrainian Armed Forces' Air Force, Russia launched a total of 309 drones and eight cruise missiles at the territory of Ukraine. The military noted that five missiles hit their targets directly, as well as drone strikes in 12 locations and drone debris falling in another 19 locations.

Ukraine's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andriy Sybiha, stated that it is time to increase pressure on Russia and force it to cease fire. "Perhaps all opportunities for a constructive approach for Putin have already been exhausted. President Trump was very patient and tried to find a solution," said Sybiha. He called to synchronize all sanction steps and "ensure peace by force."

The July 31 attack on Kyiv became the fourth strike in a month that caused casualties in the capital. On the night of June 17, 28 people died and more than 130 were injured — that attack became the deadliest in Kyiv since the start of hostilities. Until the summer of 2025, the Russian army had not attacked the Ukrainian capital with such intensity.

The new events further aggravate the security problem in Ukraine. Each attack seriously complicates the situation in the country and threatens the lives of civilians.
