The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, and the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, with the participation of US President Donald Trump, signed an agreement to end military actions. The ceremony took place on Friday, August 8, at the White House, where the leaders’ summit was held. This event may mark the beginning of a new era in relations between the two states.
During the ceremony, Trump expressed his great satisfaction, stating: “The war that lasted for 35 years is now over — now they are friends. And this friendship will last for many years.” He also added: “It is a great honor for me to welcome everyone to the White House for such a historically significant peace summit between Armenia and Azerbaijan.”
According to the signed agreement, the two countries undertake to completely cease all military actions, establish mutual trade and tourism, restore diplomatic relations, and fully respect each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. In addition, the US leadership announced the lifting of restrictions on military cooperation with Azerbaijan.
Trump described this document as an important step toward peace and noted that it could be included in the list of initiatives worthy of the Nobel Prize. “Many political leaders tried to end the war, but until ‘TRUMP’ appeared, none of them could succeed,” he wrote on the Truth Social platform.
Aliyev expressed the possibility that in the future, together with Pashinyan, they might send an appeal to the Nobel Committee: “Perhaps we, together with Prime Minister Pashinyan, will put forward a request to nominate President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.”
Pashinyan supported this proposal, saying: “I believe that President Trump deserves the Nobel Prize for his efforts toward peace. We will defend this position and continue to promote it.”
This agreement, aimed at ending one of the major conflicts in history, is being regarded as an important event not only for the Caucasus region but also for the entire world. According to experts, if the agreement is fully implemented, the region may take a step toward a new stage of economic and social development.
