A veterinary clinic in Zelenograd has performed an ultrasound examination on a fish for the first time and successfully carried out surgery.
According to reports, a turquoise acara fish, approximately five to seven years old, was brought to veterinarians with a swelling in its abdomen. Within a week, the swelling had grown rapidly, the fish’s swimming ability deteriorated, and it experienced difficulties with defecation. There was also a high risk of the tumor rupturing.
During the examination, ultrasound specialist Tatyana Baragina discovered a cyst filled with bloody fluid in the fish’s abdomen. Surgeon Nadezhda Kuzina then successfully performed a puncture and removed the cyst’s contents.
This type of medical procedure was carried out for the first time in the clinic’s history, and the experience ended successfully. After the operation, the fish became active again and was observed swimming normally.
Officials noted that the fish will remain under medical supervision for some time, as there is a chance of fluid accumulating in the cyst again.
