Wildfires intensify in Southern Europe, temperatures reach 44 degrees
In Southern Europe, numerous forest fires have broken out amid a severe heatwave. Temperatures in Italy, Spain, Portugal, and the Balkans have exceeded 40°C, reaching 44°C in some areas. Heat and wind have forced the evacuation of thousands of residents.

In Spain, near Madrid and in Andalusia, hundreds of people have been evacuated, and more than 1,000 soldiers have been deployed to fight the fires. In Portugal, three major fires have been reported, with Morocco sending two planes to assist.

In Italy, temperatures of up to 40°C are expected by the end of the week, with “red” alerts issued in 16 cities. In France, temperatures are forecast to range between 36–40°C in most regions.

Greece has recorded more than 100 fires, with large-scale evacuations underway in many regions. Turkey has brought major fires in Izmir province under control.

Experts note that climate change is making Mediterranean summers hotter and drier, leading to longer and more dangerous fire seasons.
