NATO Secretary General: "Ukraine must have reliable security guarantees"

At a joint press conference held in Kyiv, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, together with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, spoke about the country’s future security. According to him, Ukraine must obtain clear and reliable security guarantees from its Western allies.

According to Rutte, before possible negotiations between Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin take place, Ukraine must have the “explicit strength of friends.” “And that is exactly what we are working on right now,” said the NATO Secretary General.

The head of the North Atlantic Alliance stressed that the security guarantees being developed must ensure that Russia will never again attempt to seize even one square kilometer of Ukrainian territory. Rutte noted that NATO and the United States are acting as the main participants in this process.

At the same time, he emphasized that the security guarantees provided by Europe and the United States will serve as the “second layer” of Ukraine’s defense, while the first and most important layer is the strengthening of the Ukrainian army’s own capacity.

According to experts, Rutte’s statement carries strategic significance for Ukraine and may mark a new stage in the country’s security system.
