A new diplomatic dispute has arisen between France and the United States. The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it will officially summon the US ambassador in Paris, Charles Kushner. This decision is related to a critical letter written by the ambassador, in which he accused the French government of failing to take sufficient measures against the growing manifestations of antisemitism in the country.
According to the statement released by the French Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Kushner addressed his letter to the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, expressing serious concern that antisemitism is taking root in the country. He also emphasized that the government’s actions were weak and ineffective in addressing this threat.
Official Paris strongly rejected these accusations. “France considers these allegations absolutely unfounded and categorically rejects them,” the statement read. The ministry also described Kushner’s remarks as unacceptable, stressing that his statements contradicted the norms of international law.
“These words are absolutely inconsistent with the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of states. This rule is enshrined in the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations,” the official text noted.
According to reports, Charles Kushner will be summoned to the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, August 25, where he will be formally issued an official protest.
