In Japan’s capital Tokyo, officials have intensified preparations against a possible eruption of Mount Fuji. In this regard, using artificial intelligence (AI) and computer simulations, they demonstrated the worst-case scenario for a volcanic eruption, reports Peopletalk.
Mount Fuji has not erupted since 1707. In this regard, officials presented videos showing the strength and impact of an eruption. The Tokyo government video states that the volcano could erupt “at any time without warning.”
The simulation shows that volcanic ash could cover the capital approximately 100 kilometers (62 miles) away within a few hours, halt the transportation system, disrupt food and electricity supplies, and cause long-term respiratory problems.
At the end of the video, it says: “We must rely on facts and take measures against disasters in our daily lives.” The video also shows a family kitchen stocked with canned food and first aid supplies.
The Tokyo government has so far emphasized that no signs of Mount Fuji erupting have been recorded: “The simulation was developed to provide the public with accurate information and recommendations on how to act in emergency situations.”
