US President Donald Trump may temporarily withdraw from diplomatic efforts to stop the ongoing military conflict between Russia and Ukraine. This was reported by Axios, citing reliable sources in the White House.
Sources report that Trump is currently considering "seriously remaining only in the role of an observer." Perhaps he will resume negotiations only after "one side or both sides have shown more cooperation and leniency."
"We will just sit and observe the situation. We need to give them a chance to try a little more problematically - we'll see what the result will be," said a high-ranking White House source.
As noted by the Axios publication, the White House is irritated by the fact that no progress has been observed since the meeting between Trump and Putin in Alaska. Washington blames European countries for this, as it is said that Ukraine is not yet ready for peace and compromise.
At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that Trump has not lost interest in negotiations and reminded that some of the US's active diplomatic positions are still important.
Earlier, Trump stated that he would leave the initiative for a productive meeting between the leaders of Russia and Ukraine to them and that there would be no temporary intervention from the American side.
French President Emmanuel Macron warned that if there is no progress in the situation in the coming week, Trump cannot remain unresponsive to Russia's strategic positions and emphasized the importance of the role of the European community.
This situation demonstrated the intense dynamics of international politics and military diplomacy, opening new debates about the current political views of the US and its relations with Europe.
