The Semeru volcano, located east of the Indonesian island of Java, has regained activity. According to Antara News agency, the volcano erupted twice a day and caused concern among local residents.
According to reports, the first explosion occurred at 05:01 local time and lasted approximately 140 seconds. However, this process was not observed visually. Shortly after, at 09:28, another powerful eruption was recorded. This time, the explosion lasted 145 seconds, and the black ash from the volcano rose to a height of 500 meters and headed towards the southeast.
According to local authorities, Semeru volcano is still at the level of "Warning 2." Therefore, all types of activities are strictly prohibited around Besuk Kobokan, located 8 kilometers from the volcano's peak. This is one of the additional measures implemented to ensure the safety of the population.
Indonesia is known as the country with the most active volcanoes in the world. The country is located in the center of a geological zone called the "Peace Ring of Fire." Strong earthquakes, storms, and volcanic activity occur frequently in this area. Currently, more than 130 active volcanoes have been recorded in Indonesia.
