Israel and Houthis intensify firefight

On September 10, Israeli forces carried out airstrikes on the Yemeni capital Sanaa and the northern province of al-Jawf. The Israeli army said the strikes targeted military camps, the headquarters of the Houthis' propaganda department, and a fuel depot. However, the Houthis denied this information, saying the strikes targeted civilian infrastructure.

As Reuters reported, the airstrikes were the latest in a series of counterattacks between Israel and the Houthis over the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The Israeli side said in a statement: "These strikes were carried out in response to attacks by the Houthis regime against Israel. At that time, drones and surface-to-surface missiles were directed at Israeli territory."

At the same time, Houthi representatives denied that Israel had targeted military facilities. "In fact, the strikes targeted purely civilian targets. In particular, two newspaper offices were hit. Journalists and ordinary passengers were killed, and many people were injured," they said. However, no exact figures were provided.

Residents of Sanaa said the attacks targeted an area located between two mountains and used as a command center. Witnesses said the Israeli strikes also targeted the Houthi defense ministry.

According to the Houthi Health Ministry in Yemen, 35 people were killed and 131 others were injured in the attacks.

The Iranian-backed Houthi forces have stepped up attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea and Israeli territory in recent years. They interpret this as a sign of solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza. Israel has responded by regularly striking Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen, including the strategic port of Hodeidah.
