Netanyahu’s speech turned into a mass boycott

At the UN General Assembly, it was not Benjamin Netanyahu’s 41-minute speech itself but the event before it that became the main topic of discussion. Major countries and many Arab states left the hall or did not attend at all.

According to Israel, delegations from 77 countries were absent. Among them were Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Iran, and also Uzbekistan. The Pakistani delegation left the hall but listened to the speech from outside.

At the same time, delegations from the UAE and Bahrain, who joined the “Abraham Accords” in 2020, remained in their seats and listened to the address. This happened despite the war in Gaza and calls by some Israeli coalition members to annex territories in the West Bank.

Many media outlets highlighted the images of the empty hall as the main story. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei also shared these photos, calling Israel “the most hated and isolated regime.”
