Prisoner in India escapes jail with a movie-like plan

In the Indian city of Varanasi, a 43-year-old prisoner named Ramjit Yadav managed to escape from jail with a clever scheme reminiscent of the film “The Shawshank Redemption,” reports The Times of India.

According to reports, Ramjit had been imprisoned for the death of his wife. However, he managed to secure his release by presenting the prison’s checkbook as collateral and later withdrew 30,000 rupees (approximately $338) from the prison account.

He was assisted by three accomplices — a lookalike inmate, the prison’s chief accountant, and a guard. Together, they forged documents that allowed Ramjit to transfer funds from the prison warden’s account to his own.

The prison authorities noticed a suspicious withdrawal of 2,600 rupees only after four months. An internal investigation was launched, which fully uncovered the fraud scheme.

It was revealed that Ramjit had transferred money from the warden’s bank account to his personal account, with the help of collusion between the inmate and prison staff.

Currently, four people — Ramjit Yadav, the chief accountant, the guard, and his inmate accomplice — have been arrested by the police. Investigators are now studying how the crime was planned and where the money went.

Earlier, two teachers in India inspired by the series “Breaking Bad” were reported to have opened a secret drug laboratory.

This incident is being described as one of the most bizarre “movie-inspired crimes” in recent Indian history.
