Tragedy in Amur: Bus with Uzbek migrants overturned

A major traffic accident occurred in Russia’s Amur region. Near the city of Svobodny, a bus carrying workers collided with a car and overturned. One person was killed, and several others were seriously injured, TASS news agency reported.

According to reports, on the evening of October 16, a bus transporting workers involved in the construction of the Amur Gas Chemical Complex collided with a Toyota Probox car. The bus belonged to the Turkish contractor company Yamata, employing citizens of Turkey, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan.

The impact was so strong that the bus veered off the road and overturned. Emergency and rescue teams arrived quickly at the scene.

Official sources confirmed that 49 people were injured in total. One died on the spot, 14 were hospitalized, and one is in critical condition in intensive care.

The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation launched an inquiry into the incident, opening a criminal case under Article 238-1 — “Provision of services or performance of work not meeting safety requirements.”

Preliminary data suggest that the driver of the car might have violated traffic regulations. Both vehicles are undergoing technical examination.

The Yamata company stated that it had formed a special commission and that medical assistance was being provided to the injured workers.

Local media reported that most passengers were foreign specialists working at the Amur Gas Chemical Complex construction site, transported daily to and from work by the company.

The tragedy sparked wide public discussion in Russia. Further details about the investigation and the bus driver’s actions are expected soon.

Local authorities and consulates remain in contact with hospitals to assist the victims.
