A new metro station named "Saint Mary" is planned to be launched in Tehran in the coming days. This was reported by a RIA Novosti correspondent.
The new station, officially named "Maryam-e Mogaddas," is located on Nejotollahi Street in the city center, where it was built near the Armenian Apostolic Church of St. Sarkis. This station is dedicated to the mother of the Prophet Jesus, known in Iran as "Bibi Maryam."
The government of the Islamic Republic of Iran stated that the station's name and interior design express respect for the Christian minority in the country. According to the project's author and designer, Tanya Tarigmehr, seven thematic panels depicting the life of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the sacred beliefs of Christianity are installed on the station walls.
At the entrance to the metro, 6 verses of Surah Maryam from the Holy Quran are written, which is also noted to represent tolerance between Islam and Christianity.
Social media users consider the opening of this station a symbol of cultural dialogue and mutual respect between representatives of different religions.
According to the information, construction and decoration work at the station has been fully completed, and preparations for the official opening ceremony are currently underway. In the coming days, the station will begin receiving passengers.
