“No King”: Anti-Trump Protests Sweep Across the United States

On October 18, large-scale protests took place across the United States. According to NBC News, the demonstrations were directed against President Donald Trump’s “authoritarian tendencies and corruption.”

Organizers reported that more than 2,700 rallies were held nationwide, with nearly seven million participants. The largest gatherings took place in Washington, New York, and Chicago, NBC News reported.

Protesters carried signs reading “No King,” “For Democracy,” and “The Rich Are Killing the Nation.” Most demonstrations remained peaceful, and according to Reuters, police reported no arrests or clashes.

The protests were organized by the Indivisible movement. Its founder, Leah Greenberg, stated: “We just want to express our views peacefully. The United States has never had a king, and never will.”

Analysts see the protests as a reflection of growing dissatisfaction with the Trump administration’s policies, particularly its persecution of political opponents, stricter immigration rules, and deployment of the National Guard to maintain order in cities.

Republicans, for their part, described the rallies as “a display of hatred toward America.” They argue that criticism of Trump’s administration only deepens political instability in the country.

The protests took place amid a government shutdown that halted several federal agencies and forced thousands of public employees into unpaid leave. This further fueled public discontent and marked the second wave of mass demonstrations since June.
