US Accuses Colombia of Drug Trafficking
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said that US forces had struck a vessel belonging to Colombia. The ship was reportedly linked to the leftist National Liberation Army. According to Hegseth, the operation took place in the Caribbean Sea, resulting in the deaths of three people.

In his statement, he said the vessel was involved in illegal drug trafficking, but provided no evidence to support the claim. The Pentagon offered no further comment, while the Colombian embassy did not respond to requests for clarification.

On the same day, US President Donald Trump criticized Colombian President Gustavo Petro, accusing him of “encouraging drug production” and announcing that financial aid to Colombia would be suspended.

The Trump administration has carried out several strikes on vessels in the Caribbean in recent months. These actions have drawn sharp criticism in Colombia. Human rights organizations have called these operations “unlawful killings at sea.”

In recent months, relations between the US and Colombia have become strained. Since Trump’s return to power, political tensions between the two nations have increased.
