Bird flu outbreak in France rises again, farms under control

The situation related to bird flu in France has worsened again. The country’s Ministry of Agriculture has declared a high alert level nationwide. From now on, all poultry farms must keep their birds indoors, not outdoors.

This measure was taken to prevent the spread of the virus and strengthen sanitary control. In recent years, highly pathogenic bird flu has spread widely from Europe to America. The virus has been found not only in wild birds but also in mammals such as minks and cats.

Experts are concerned that the virus could mutate to the point where it can be transmitted from person to person. So far, no such cases have been recorded. The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has reported that the current risk level for humans remains very low.

Over the past two years, millions of birds have been culled across Europe to prevent the spread of the virus. For instance, last week in the Netherlands, 71,000 birds were destroyed at a farm where bird flu was detected, while in Spain, several possible outbreaks have been identified in recent days, with strict safety measures imposed.

The French government noted that the bird flu vaccination program launched in 2022 has shown positive results. However, experts emphasize the importance of remaining vigilant and keeping the virus under control.
