Investigative bodies have reported an attempted kidnapping by a criminal group against the famous Russian footballer, Zenit midfielder Andrey Mostovoy, in St. Petersburg, according to fontanka.ru. The incident occurred on October 23 in a residential area on Vyazov Street.
According to the investigation, several unknown individuals planned to forcefully put the footballer into a car and restrict his freedom. However, the plan was not implemented due to unforeseen circumstances. It turned out that at this time, Mostovoy's friend arrived at the scene, intervened in the situation, and forced the attackers to flee.
Two days after this attempt, the same individuals committed another crime on Krestovsky Island. They forced a local businessman into a car near a shop, forcing him to transfer 210,000 rubles, and subsequently demanded compensation of 10 million rubles.
According to the press service of the Investigative Committee of Russia, four suspects were detained during the special operation. They were charged with several serious crimes - kidnapping, attempted kidnapping, and robbery.
Investigators are currently investigating all the details of the crime. Mostovoy himself was reportedly unharmed during the incident and is currently in a safe place. According to reports, the footballer gave instructions to investigative bodies, and his statement was attached to the case materials.
According to local media, the attackers may have aimed to obtain financial benefits from the player by kidnapping him. Due to quick actions and witness intervention, the plan failed.
The detainees are currently being held in a temporary detention facility, and their identities and other possible accomplices are being established.
