Typhoon Kalmaegi destroys parts of the Philippines and Vietnam

Typhoon Kalmaegi reached Vietnam on Thursday. In the Philippines, at least 114 people were killed, and several towns were flooded. According to Vietnamese authorities and media, more than 260,000 soldiers are on standby, and winds of 149 km/h are hitting the coast.

In Quy Nhon and Gia Lai provinces, winds tore roofs off houses, uprooted trees, and broke hotel windows. The weather service warned of floods and landslides in seven provinces and cities. The typhoon could create waves up to 8 meters high at sea.

In the Philippines, the typhoon caused heavy damage in central areas, especially on Cebu Island. At least 114 people died, tens of thousands were evacuated, and homes and vehicles were flooded. President Ferdinand Marcos declared a state of emergency and started delivering aid.

In Vietnam, evacuation operations are ongoing. Authorities and the military are providing food, drinking water, and other essential supplies. Experts warn of rising sea levels and potential damage to fishing farms and coastal areas.
