Elvira Nabiullina said that banks have “gone too far” in the fight against fraudsters

The head of the Central Bank, Elvira Nabiullina, said that banks have “gone too far” in the fight against fraudsters. She stated this at the “Customer Focus” conference, Pravilamag reports.

“While fighting fraud, we overdid it in some areas. Clients were not always told why we blocked their funds, we discussed this situation with you,” Nabiullina said. At the same time, the head of the Central Bank added that the “first signs of improvement” have appeared and expressed hope that the fraud problem will be resolved soon.

At the end of August, the Central Bank demanded that banks provide full information on the reasons for card blocking, specifying the exact laws and regulations, as well as the procedure for lifting restrictions. In September, Rosfinmonitoring reported that since the beginning of the year, the agency had received 840 complaints regarding the blocking of bank accounts.
