Russia has welcomed the new US National Security Strategy announced by Donald Trump’s administration, calling it “largely consistent” with Moscow’s views. The document does not portray Russia as a threat, while Europe is described as facing a “civilizational risk.” The strategy prioritizes combating foreign influence, controlling migration, and countering censorship in the European Union.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov praised the document but said final conclusions would be drawn only after detailed review. The strategy uses a softer tone toward Russia, which worries European officials. It notes that Europe has blocked US efforts to end the war and emphasizes the need to restore stability with Russia.
The document also supports “reviving national spirit” and backing political parties in Europe. It warns that Europe may become unrecognizable in the future and that its economic problems are minor compared to the civilizational risk. The US encourages its European partners to support this revival.
The strategy emphasizes an “America First” policy. It includes measures to combat drug trafficking in the Caribbean and the eastern Pacific, and considers potential military action in Venezuela. The US also calls for increased defense spending from Japan, South Korea, Australia, and Taiwan. US Democrats warn that the strategy could negatively affect international relations.
