Seversk, one of the hottest points on the Donetsk front, has been vacated by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. According to an official statement by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, after the fierce and bloody clashes, the defenders were forced to leave the city.
Reason for retreat: Human life is paramount
According to the General Staff, Russian troops had several times the superiority in terms of manpower and military equipment. Despite heavy losses, the enemy launched relentless attacks, putting the city under siege.
"Our main goal is to save the lives of our soldiers and maintain the combat capability of the units. Therefore, a decision was made to withdraw troops from the city," the official statement said.
At the same time, the Ukrainian side emphasizes that the city of Seversk is currently "under fire control," meaning that enemy forces entering the city remain an open target for artillery strikes.
Strategic importance: Are Slavyansk and Kramatorsk in danger?
Seversk, located only 30 kilometers from Slavyansk, was an important bridgehead in the defense of the region. Russian forces had already announced their control over the city on December 11th, but Ukrainian forces had continued fighting for neighborhoods within the city.
- Direction: The capture of this settlement opens the way for Russian troops towards the last large fortresses of the Donetsk region - Slavyansk and Kramatorsk.
- Political pressure: The Kremlin demands that Ukraine completely abandon the rest of the Donetsk region, while Kyiv completely rejects these conditions and continues to defend.

The situation in the Donetsk region is currently experiencing the most difficult period of the entire war. Both sides have mobilized all their capabilities for strategic points. The loss of Seversk led to a change in the front line and the establishment of new defensive positions.
