Denmark and Greenland visit the White House: Greenland dispute heats up

Denmark’s and Greenland’s representatives in the United States reportedly met with Trump’s advisers on Thursday. According to the Associated Press, Copenhagen and Nuuk have stepped up diplomatic efforts in Washington, aiming to persuade U.S. lawmakers and key figures in the Trump administration to back away from U.S. claims over Greenland.
It is reported that Denmark’s ambassador to the United States, Jesper Møller Sørensen, and Greenland’s chief representative in Washington, Jakob Isbosethsen, held talks with officials from the White House National Security Council. The agency cited Danish officials who spoke on condition of anonymity.
AP notes that the White House was asked to comment on the meeting but did not respond. Meanwhile, Denmark and Greenland’s representatives are also said to have held a series of meetings with U.S. lawmakers.
Notably: it was also recalled that next week U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is expected to meet Danish officials to discuss Greenland.
The conclusion is simple: the dispute over Greenland is no longer just in headlines—it is turning into “real” talks in the corridors of the White House as well. Denmark and Greenland have shifted from passive observers to an active stance.
