Prosecutors seek death penalty for former South Korean president

South Korea’s prosecution has demanded the death penalty for the country’s former president Yoon Suk Yeol. He is accused of inciting unrest and undermining the Constitution by unlawfully imposing martial law. This was reported by podrobno.uz. reports .
As a reminder, in December 2024 Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law, citing “the protection of the constitutional order” and “a threat from North Korea.” However, after opposition Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung and parliament overturned the decision, an investigation into the former president was launched.
According to Yonhap, Yoon Suk Yeol deployed the military and police to surround the National Assembly building, obstructed a vote against his decree, and also issued orders to arrest the parliamentary speaker and party leaders.
The former president’s spouse, Kim Keon Hee, was also arrested. She faces allegations including stock manipulation, bribery, and interference in the election process.
