High-speed trains collide: 39 people killed in Spain

Reuters reports that at least 39 people were killed after two high-speed trains collided in Spain’s Cordoba province. The accident occurred on the evening of January 19 near the town of Adamuz. According to official information, more than 120 people were injured, and some remain in hospital.
It is reported that a train traveling from Malaga to Madrid derailed. Shortly after, a collision occurred with another train coming from the opposite direction. Both trains were carrying hundreds of passengers.
Rescue operations were difficult because the crash site was located in a remote area. Despite this, emergency and rescue services assisted the injured. The country’s leadership arrived at the scene.
The cause of the accident is still unknown. Specialists are conducting an investigation. The tragedy is considered one of the largest railway accidents in Spain in recent years.
