The US government has sufficient funds to finance the war against Iran, but is requesting additional funding from Congress to guarantee adequate military provision in the future. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced this in an interview with NBC News.
Without specifying the exact amount, Bessent also noted that there are no plans to increase taxes to finance the war. "We have enough money to finance the war. We are talking about additional funds. As President Trump did in his first term, he has now strengthened the military in his second term, and he wants the armed forces to be fully supplied with everything necessary in the future," Bessent said.
US Secretary of Defense Pete Haggett also stated last week that additional funding was needed to "provide sufficient funds for work that has already been done and can be done in the future."
