US officially announces lifting of death penalty restrictions

The U.S. Department of Justice has officially lifted the moratorium on federal executions, reversing a policy established during the Biden administration. Under the new directive, the government will resume lethal injection protocols and introduce firing squads as an authorized method for carrying out capital punishment. This shift follows an executive order signed by President Donald Trump in January 2025, which aims to accelerate the execution process for inmates who have exhausted all legal appeals. Justice Department officials emphasized that these measures are intended to fulfill the legal obligation to carry out sentences for the most heinous crimes.
The US Department of Justice has officially announced the lifting of restrictions on the death penalty at the federal level.
It is reported that the moratorium introduced during Joe Biden's term has been terminated, and there are now plans to use this form of punishment more actively for the most serious crimes.
According to the new regulations, the previously used lethal injection protocol will be reintroduced. At the same time, execution by firing squad is being included as an additional method of punishment.
Department of Justice representatives emphasized that the obligation to carry out death sentences issued within the framework of the law has been restored.
It will now be possible to carry out execution processes for convicts who have exhausted all stages of appeal and complaint.
Furthermore, it is stated that internal procedures will be improved to accelerate the review of cases.
For reference, in January 2025, Donald Trump signed a decree on the restoration of the death penalty at the federal level.
