Tesla launches virtual queue system at Supercharger stations
Tesla has introduced a new virtual queuing feature at its Supercharger stations to streamline the charging process during peak times. The system allows drivers to join a digital line via their vehicle’s interface as they approach a busy station, eliminating the need for physical lineups. Although an algorithm determines the correct order of service, Tesla will currently use on-screen warnings rather than hardware lockouts to discourage those who attempt to skip the queue. The success of this initiative, which covers a global network of over 60,000 charging points, will largely depend on driver discipline and mutual cooperation.
Tesla has begun rolling out a virtual queue feature for its Supercharger fast-charging stations. This new feature allows drivers to join a digital line instead of waiting physically in their cars when a station is busy. Ixbt.com reported.
When a driver approaches a charging station, the system offers the option to join the virtual queue. Based on the time the vehicle joined the queue, Tesla's algorithm automatically determines who has the right to charge next.
The company does not plan to forcibly disable charging for drivers who begin charging without following the queue. Instead, a warning message will appear in the mobile app: "There is a queue at this station.
Are you sure you want to start a charging session now?"
The effectiveness of the new system will largely depend on drivers' own discipline. For reference, the Tesla Supercharger network has more than 60,000 charging points at over 6,000 locations worldwide.
