"Shrek 5" premiere delayed by six months

Universal and DreamWorks Animation studios have decided to postpone the premiere of the fifth installment of the popular animated franchise “Shrek.” Previously scheduled for December 23, 2026, the film will now be released on June 30, 2027. This was reported by Peopletalk.

It is noted that this is already the second delay for “Shrek 5.” The project was initially planned for release in July 2026, then postponed to December 2026. However, the studio has not officially stated the reason for the delay.

The new installment will hit the big screens twenty-five years after the release of the original “Shrek” animated film. The first part, released in 2001, reimagined the traditional fairy tale concept of “happily ever after,” grossed nearly $500 million worldwide, and became the first animated film in history to win an Oscar.

It was followed by three sequels:

  • “Shrek 2” (2004),

  • “Shrek the Third” (2007),

  • “Shrek Forever After” (2010),

  • as well as two spin-offs about a popular character — the “Puss in Boots” films.

In the new installment, Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz will return to their roles.

In addition, it has been revealed that DreamWorks will launch a new project within the franchise — a standalone film about Donkey, the witty and loyal friend of the main character.
