We are talking about a 1997 concert held as part of the “History World Tour” in Nîmes, France. Remaining faithful to his unique stage style, Jackson performed his famous song “Billie Jean” wearing white sports socks decorated with rhinestones. After the show ended, the sock was spotted lying on the floor near the wardrobe, and a stage technician picked it up and kept it for many years.
Over time, the item developed stains, and its glittering rhinestones turned yellowish, yet it is still regarded as a “cult item” preserving the stage charm of Michael Jackson. Interest in it at the auction was high, and the sale was eventually closed at $8,000.
It is worth noting that this is not the first time Jackson’s stage attributes have sold for record prices. In 2009, a casino resort in Macau bought his glittering glove, worn during the “moonwalk” dance, for $350,000. And in 2023, at an auction in Paris, his hat worn before the famous stage entrance was sold for more than $80,000.
