New figures on gas export and import for January-July 2025 have been announced in Uzbekistan. According to the State Committee on Statistics, the volume of gas import in the country exceeded export indicators, Spot reports.
According to the report for the first seven months, although gas imports from Turkmenistan and Russia decreased by 30.6%, their total value reached 734 million dollars. In particular, gas deliveries amounted to 27.8 million dollars in January, 8 million in February, and 2.7 million in March. Later, in April, imports sharply increased to 112 million dollars, in May to 135 million, and reached a record high of 286.3 million in June. In July, the volume of imports decreased to 162.2 million dollars.
At the same time, growth was recorded in gas exports to China from the beginning of the year. According to the State Committee on Statistics, the volume of deliveries increased by 38.2% and reached 438.6 million dollars. In particular, 21.8 million dollars’ worth of gas was delivered to China in January, 20.2 million in February, 52.3 million in March, 105.4 million in April, 88.3 million in May, 66.9 million in June, and 83.7 million in July.
However, these figures differ from the data of China's General Customs Administration. According to Chinese calculations, Uzbekistan exported 460 million dollars’ worth of gas from January to May, which is 51.2% more compared to the previous year. In addition, China noted that gas imports from Uzbekistan decreased by 8.95% from June to July.
In the global market, Russia still holds the lead in gas supplies to China. In the first seven months of 2025, Russia supplied 5.69 billion dollars’ worth of gas to China. Turkmenistan is in second place (4.95 billion dollars), followed by Myanmar (922.1 million dollars), Kazakhstan (599.5 million dollars), and the United States and Italy with relatively smaller volumes.
According to officials, this dynamic in imports and exports shows that domestic consumption in Uzbekistan is increasing, and competition in foreign markets is intensifying.
