Potato cultivation in Uzbekistan will develop with state support

The field of potato cultivation in Uzbekistan is entering a new stage. The Presidential Decree "On Additional Measures to Increase Potato Production and Further Develop Potato Seed Production in the Republic" is considered an important step in modernizing agriculture and providing the population with strategic products.

In accordance with the resolution, specific target indicators have been identified for increasing the volume of potato cultivation and improving the seed production system in the country. In particular, starting from 2028, it is required to annually grow at least 10 million potatoes with a germination rate of at least 85 percent.

The task has also been set to increase the average potato yield in the republic from 16-17 tons to 25-30 tons by 2030. These indicators will serve to increase the efficiency of agriculture, ensure a stable supply of basic food products to the population, and reduce import volumes.

The Ministry of Agriculture has been instructed to annually, by December 1, place orders with scientific institutions and entrepreneurs for plants, micro- and mini-tubers of potatoes grown in vitro, which are planned to be grown next year. This serves to achieve high efficiency in agriculture in the combination of science and practice.

From January 1, 2026, loans will be allocated to farmers on favorable terms through commercial banks at the expense of the State Support Fund for Agriculture. In particular, loans for up to 12 months with a grace period of 6 months at a rate of 12 percent per annum will be provided to finance the costs of growing potatoes in the amount of up to 50 percent of the cost of the harvest. The lending process is carried out on the basis of a compulsory insurance policy.
