In January-August of this year, remittances from abroad to Uzbekistan amounted to more than 12 billion US dollars. This indicator is almost 23 percent higher than in the same period last year. According to the Central Bank, while the majority of revenues came from Russia, there is also a significant increase in funds directed from Europe and the USA.
Officials noted that since the beginning of the year, the volume of remittances has entered a stable growth trajectory since March. In particular, if in July transfers reached almost $2 billion, then in August they also exceeded $1.9 billion. Nevertheless, compared to August of last year, an increase of 19.9% was recorded this year.
At the same time, a positive balance was observed in the population's foreign exchange transactions. During January-August, citizens sold 5.6 billion dollars more foreign currency than they bought. This indicator increased by 40% compared to the same period last year and had a positive impact on the balance of supply and demand in the domestic foreign exchange market.
According to the Central Bank, although the main part of remittances is directed from Russia, there is also a revival from EU countries, the USA, and the UK. For example, revenues from the Baltic states increased by 65.6 percent, and from other regions - by 38.2 percent.
Funds directed from European countries increased by almost 26.9% compared to last year, while remittances from the USA increased by 10.3%. It was noted that funds directed from Russia increased by 23.7%. At the same time, funds directed from Asia remained at a stable level.
