Uzbekistan to Purchase 1,800 Buses by the End of 2026

A significant new step is being taken in Uzbekistan to modernize the public transport system and expand comfortable travel conditions for the population in the regions. The President has instructed officials to finance the purchase of 1,800 buses by the end of 2026.
According to Transport Minister Ilhom Mahkamov, the head of state has set specific tasks for providing concessional bank loans to entrepreneurs to extensively renew the public transport fleet. This reform covers the period until the end of 2026.
A total of 1,800 vehicles are planned for purchase under the program. This will not only increase passenger comfort but also serve to elevate the quality of public transport in cities and districts to a new level.
The new vehicles include 600 gas-powered buses and 400 electric buses. This signifies an acceleration in the country's gradual transition to eco-friendly, cost-effective, and modern modes of transport.
The issue of financing has also received special attention. This year alone, a credit line of $100 million will be allocated by the National Bank. These funds will allow entrepreneurs to purchase new buses, expand their fleets, and improve service quality.
One of the main goals of this initiative is to accelerate the digitalization of the transport sector. The aim is to form a convenient, safe, and transparent service system for passengers through modern buses and electric buses.
At the same time, increasing the share of eco-friendly transport in the regions is a key priority. Electric and gas-powered buses help reduce harmful emissions, which is of great importance for improving urban air quality and protecting public health.
In short, this program, to be implemented by the end of 2026, could pave the way for significant changes in the public transport sector. New buses, concessional loans, digitalization, and an ecological approach all serve one goal: creating a more convenient, faster, and more modern transport system for the people.
