Italy's Banca Sella has obtained official authorization from the Bank of Italy to operate with crypto-assets under the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation. As a result of this agreement, Banca Sella has become the first financial institution in the country to be authorized to provide cryptocurrency services. According to the bank, a new solution focused on the custody, transfer, and receipt of digital assets for specific customer segments will be launched in 2026. Andrea Tessera, Managing Director of Digital Banking at Banca Sella, emphasized that the tokenization process makes payments faster, interoperable, and programmable. The bank's new crypto service is viewed as part of this technological transformation.

Banca Sella is also a founding member of the Qivalis consortium, which consists of 37 European banks planning to issue a euro-pegged stablecoin. The bank previously introduced Bitcoin wallet services through its Hype digital brand and has been actively involved in the Bank of Italy's Fintech Milano Hub projects.
