Australia to Tighten Childcare Safety Rules
The Australian government plans to close gaps in the system for screening childcare workers. Under a new bill, a person banned from working with children in one state will not be able to apply for such work in another. Under this system, all states and territories will share information.

Justice Minister Michelle Rowland said that under the current system, some people who have been rejected due to a criminal record or unlawful conduct at work may try to get a job in another region. Therefore, the “banned in one place — banned everywhere” rule will be introduced.

The new law is scheduled to come into force at the end of the year as part of broader reforms to ensure child safety. These changes are being introduced following incidents of violence in childcare facilities.

Currently, each state has its own screening system, but they do not share information. Under the new system, all regions will be able to transfer data almost in real time. This way, a person rejected in one place will not be able to work in another region.
