The Global Peace Index 2025, compiled by the Institute for Economics and Peace, has identified the world’s safest countries. The ranking is based on 23 indicators, including crime rate, terrorism, military expenditures, and involvement in international conflicts.
Iceland has held the top position since 2008. In the country, police serve without firearms, social equality policies are highly developed, and citizens can walk safely even at night.
Ireland is also among the leaders in maintaining peace. Its neutrality policy, low crime rate, and strong social support system create a calm environment in the country.
New Zealand rose to third place. Strict gun control, solid social systems, and harmony with nature provide a sense of security for both locals and tourists.
Austria and Switzerland, thanks to their strong social systems and military neutrality, ranked fourth and fifth. Experts emphasize that the stable policies of these countries make them some of the most comfortable places to live and travel.
