Regular consumption of sweet lemonades and carbonated drinks significantly raises the risk of hair loss. Although this habit may seem simple, it can have a serious impact on vital health.
In 2023, Chinese scientists’ research showed that young men who consume at least one glass of fizzy drink daily have a threefold higher risk of hair loss compared to those who have given up this habit.
Now, Portuguese researchers have also confirmed this conclusion in their recent analyses: sweet drinks can negatively affect hair density, growth, and thickness. According to their study, men who consume more than 3.5 liters of carbonated and sweet drinks per week (i.e., an average of 500 ml per day) experience hair loss significantly more often than others.
Experts believe that this is mainly due to excess sugar — it negatively affects blood circulation and intensifies inflammatory processes. As a result, hair follicles weaken, and quality hair growth is limited. At the same time, energy drinks are also dangerous: their high caffeine content can raise the stress hormone — cortisol, which also leads to hair loss.
Currently, scientists are studying in depth how sweet drinks affect hair loss, but the correlation has already been proven.
According to the data, at least 25% of men aged 20 show signs of hair loss. Among men over 50, this figure reaches 85%. Therefore, to maintain health and ensure long-term prevention, it is important to limit the consumption of carbonated and sweet drinks.
