The trial in the case of former minister Aziz Voitov, who was detained in October 2023, has ended. Today, the Mirabad District Criminal Court announced the verdict in his case. During the trial, not only Voitov himself, but also the actions of a total of 62 people were considered. This was officially reported by the press service of the Supreme Court.
According to the court verdict, Aziz Voitov was found guilty of crimes under Article 167, Part 3, Clause "a" of the Criminal Code (embezzlement or misappropriation) and a number of other articles of the Criminal Code.
However, it was taken into account that the material damage caused in his case was fully compensated. For this reason, Voitov was not sentenced to imprisonment. According to the court verdict, he was deprived of the right to hold managerial, leadership, official, and materially responsible positions for a period of 3 years. Also, a fine of 400 times the base calculation amount and correctional labor for a period of 3 years with 30% of the monthly salary directed to the state revenue were imposed.
It should be noted that part 4 of Article 167 of the Criminal Code states that such punishments as imprisonment or restriction of liberty are not applied if the material damage caused is fully compensated. Therefore, the court took into account that Voitov compensated for the damage and decided to transfer his funds from the deposit account to the state treasury.
Another person in the case - Kh. Karimov, who worked as the director of the Agency for the Provision of Services in Agriculture, was sentenced to a more severe punishment. He was deprived of the right to hold official and materially responsible positions for a period of 3 years and sentenced to 8 years and 6 months of imprisonment.
Of the remaining 60 defendants, 9 were sentenced to imprisonment, and 51 were sentenced to various non-custodial punishments.
As a reminder, Aziz Voitov was dismissed almost two years ago and a criminal case was initiated against him. Now the trial has ended and the official verdict has entered into force.
