Smart traffic light system in Tashkent: a new era of road traffic begins

The Tashkent City Center for Organizing Road Traffic provided an official explanation regarding the large-scale replacement of traffic lights in the capital. Specialists note that a modern intelligent transport system is being gradually introduced in the city, which in turn is opening a new stage in traffic management.
It is reported that the new system turns each intersection not just into a stopping point, but into a center that analyzes traffic flow and manages it intelligently.
Traffic lights continuously monitor vehicle movement through special sensors. If there is no congestion in a certain direction, the green light does not stay on unnecessarily, and the system prioritizes the direction where the main flow is concentrated.
In addition, the system can detect buses and automatically extend the green signal phase so that they do not fall behind schedule.
The Center also explained that it is technically impossible to preserve the old traffic light poles. According to new standards, all electrical cables and fiber-optic communication systems are routed through underground infrastructure. Old poles do not meet the requirements of such a modern “hidden system”.
In addition, for the accurate operation of sensors and video analytics cameras, minimal vibration of the poles is required. The new structures provide stability, increase data accuracy, and eliminate measurement errors.
The new galvanized poles do not rust, last a long time, and do not require additional annual painting costs.
According to the Center, the main goal is the transition from manual control to a fully automated digital traffic management system. This is not just an infrastructure upgrade, but the transformation of the entire city transport system to an intelligent level.
Experts note that such large-scale modernization is very difficult to implement on old infrastructure, therefore a phased full replacement plan has been chosen.
